This was the first year that Hasbro produced original designs for Transformers. Some of these might have been simpler than the original Diaclones, but these were designed to stand up to hard play, unlike certain Diaclones....
This was also the year the movie was shown to theaters, resulting in the deaths of many fan favorites such as Prowl and Wheeljack, not to mention Optimus Prime and Starscream, and the introduction of many new characters such as Ultra Magnus and Springer.
This was the year I got my first Transformers also... Blurr, who is now a unofficial Headmaster and so not pictured, and Powerglide.

Scramble City Gestalts
Top left depicts the Protectobots First Aid, Groove, Streetwise, and Blades led by Hot Spot. They combine to form Defensor.
Top right shows the Stunticon team consisting of Drag Strip, Wildrider, Breakdown, and Dead End with their leader Motormaster. They likewise unite to become Menasor.
On the bottom left is the Aerialbot member Air Raid while on the bottom right is the Combaticon leader Onslaught.

The Autobot Triple-Changers Sandstorm and Springer in their land, air, and robot modes.
Galvatron
Galvatron in his various modes. Mine is missing his cannon barrel.
