The Transformers from these two years were derived from the Diaclone and Microchange toy lines from Takara, with a small smatttering of designs from other companies. Diaclones were originaly piloted mecha, hence the reason Ironhide and Ratchet don't have heads. The Microchange figures were supposed to be to scale, in a war fought out on the scale of toys.

This is what most people think of when they think of Transformers... I don't have many though.
